2022 Evangelho Carignan
Coming from a vineyard planted in the sandy Delta 35 years after California became a state, these ancient vines make a wine that is serious and light. The robe is light-hued and strawberry colored. The nose has the slightest jammy strawberry character, like tarte aux fraises or freshly made cranberry sauce. There is a spicy, menthol character reminding me of walking the vines at flowering. The palate is filled with bright fruit and acidity with an ethereal flow that finishes with the classiest of soft tannins.
